  1. Alumnus Honored for Work Identifying Top Conservation Priorities

    From populating an early conservation database using IBM key punch cards to protecting many thousands of acres of ecologically significant lands in South Carolina, 2023 Distinguished Alumni Award winner Tom Kohlsaat ’73 MFS has always been guided by the relevant conservation needs of the day.
  2. Barrier-Breaking Forest Geneticist Honored with YSE Alumni Award

    As a woman, a scientist, and in countless other roles in her life and career, Sharon Friedman ’77 MFS defied expectations and challenged norms. In recognition of her accomplishments and dedication to the School, she will receive the Distinguished Alumni Award from YSE at Reunion Weekend 2022.
  3. New Initiative Connects the Northeast’s Forest Farmers

    The Forest School at the Yale School of the Environment has helped establish the Northeast Forest Farmers Coalition, an education and outreach program designed to help the region’s forest landowners build forest farming operations.
  4. Celebrating Old Growth

    Renowned environmental authors recently took part in a Yale-led discussion that celebrated the release of Old Growth,  a collection of essays and poems about the rich inner lives of trees.
  5. Success in an ‘Accidental Profession’

    A broad science background and some old-fashioned pluck helped Jean Thomson Black ’75 MFS build an impactful career in science publishing, for which she was honored with the School’s Distinguished Service Award at Reunion Weekend 2020.
