Lunch + Panel | Cooling Hot Cities
Bowers Auditorium, Sage Hall
Kick off Reunion Weekend with an afternoon exploring the impacts of heat in urban settings and how it can be mitigated. Learn how the work of YSE faculty, alumni, and students is advancing more equitable, livable, and resilient communities.
Panelists will include:
- Karen Seto, Frederick C. Hixon Professor of Geography and Urbanization Science; Director of the Hixon Center for Urban Sustainability; Co-Director of the Yale Center for Geospatial Solutions.
- Morgan Grove ’91 MFS, ’96 PhD – Lecturer in Urban Ecology for Local and Regional Decision Making at YSE, Commissioner and Co-Chair of the Office of Sustainability for the City of Baltimore, Co-Principal Investigator of the Baltimore Ecosystem Study and Visiting Scientist at the Cary Institute of Ecosystem Studies.
- Erika Svendsen '93 MES, Program Director of the YSE Urban Climate Leadership Certificate Program and former Research Scientist and Team Leader of the U.S. Forest Service NYC Urban Field Station.
This event is a complement to a tour of innovative cooling strategies that will follow. You are welcome to attend one or both.

Field Trip | Cooling Hot Cities
Departs and returns to Sage Hall
Hop on board the bus for an immersive guided tour of innovative cooling strategies integrated into communities across New Haven, including three reflective cooling murals, high-impact urban tree-planting efforts by the Urban Resources Initiative, and the New Haven Botanical Garden of Healing. We will end with a stop along the Farmington Canal Trail, immediately adjacent to a new locally-owned ice cream shop, before returning to YSE on foot via the Farmington Canal Trail or by bus.
This tour will be largely by bus but will include some walking and loading and unloading from a bus that is likely to have steps. Please email alumni.yse@yale.edu with questions. Spots limited, registration required.

Engaging, short-format talks by alumni. This year’s talks will focus on the intersection of business and environment to mark the 20th anniversary of the Center for Business and the Environment (CBEY). Facilitated by Stuart DeCew '11 MEM/MBA, Executive Director of CBEY.
