U.S. Department of Agriculture Secretary Tom Vilsack will deliver a public policy address at the Yale School of Forestry & Environmental Studies (F&ES) on Tuesday, April 14.
The event, which will be held at 10 a.m. in Kroon Hall, 195 Prospect, is open to the public. It is hosted by F&ES, the Yale Food Law Society, and the Yale Sustainable Food Program.
Vilsack will address the urgency for federal funding of wildfire management resources, the role of voluntary service in forest conservation programs, management of renewable fuels in national forests, and the impacts of climate change on U.S. natural resources.
Since his appointment by President Obama in 2009, Vilsack has helped expand markets for U.S. farmers at home and globally, fought to reduce child hunger and obesity, and led a comprehensive effort to improve the safety of the American food supply.
During his tenure the USDA has also enrolled a record number of private working lands into conservation programs and implemented new strategies to restore forests and improve water supplies.
And as chair of the first-ever White House Rural Council, Vilsack has helped strengthen services for rural businesses and entrepreneurs through new partnerships with federal agencies and the private sector.
