Yale President Peter Salovey on Monday afternoon kicked off the final week before his inauguration with a visit to the Yale School of Forestry & Environmental Studies.
Salovey, who has pledged to create a more unified and accessible Yale, told a large audience in Kroon Hall that F&ES is one of the university's "defining" schools.
"There are just so few research universities, liberal arts colleges that can host or boast of having a school like this," he said. "You are part of what creates our uniqueness."
The appearance was part of what Salovey described as a weeklong plan to visit "essentially every major workplace on campus" to thank members of the Yale community and celebrate the historic inauguration. Salovey, who is Yale's 23rd president, is the first new chief administrator in 20 years.
“We’re truly fortunate to have such an outstanding, well-qualified and deeply experienced leader to take us into the future at Yale in what I’m sure will be a very, very exciting run indeed,” said Peter Crane, dean of the Yale School of Forestry & Environmental Studies.
On Saturday, the university will host a campus-wide open house for visiting dignitaries and the public. Kroon Hall will be open from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m, with tours at 11, 12 and 1.
The festivities will culminate with the formal inauguration beginning at 2 p.m. Sunday in Woolsey Hall.
