Climate Change Seminar
Teaching Mode: Online
Spring 2021: M,W, 2:30-3:50, Online
Critically reading the scientific literature is a key skill set for a scientific career. So is interacting with scientists during seminars and meetings. The goal of this class is to provide opportunities to improve these skills, while gaining competence in climate change science through reading a core set of papers. The class meets Wednesdays at 2:30 to interact with experts and a second TBD time to discuss the papers. During the TBD class we critically discuss a paper by an expert in the field. On Wednesday, we Skype that person in for a short presentation on the paper and then a discussion with the class. The speakers have a broad range of experience and are at different points in their careers; the close of discussion is reserved for questions on the scientific process and career advice. There is a wide range of topics, such as permafrost vulnerability, sea-level rise, ice sheet dynamics, and ocean acidification.
