The Yale Graduate and Profession Student Senate last week presented Alark Saxena, an associate research scientist and lecturer at F&ES, with the 2018 Inspiring Yale Award for inspiring Yale students in and out of the classroom.
Saxena, who is also the program director of the Yale Himalaya Initiative, is a social-ecologist, a complex system scientist and a systems modeler. In his work hefocuses on developing solutions to increase the sustainability of natural resources, reducing risks of vulnerable populations to potential disasters and improving the well-being of poor and vulnerable communities across the world
Launched in 2015, Inspiring Yale celebrates the discoveries and accomplishments happening every day at Yale University.
During its annual awards event, Inspiring Yale showcases the work of thought leaders from the 13 graduate and professional schools at Yale. Students from each school nominate and vote on faculty doing the most interesting and engaging work to represent their school and share their work. The elected faculty members give short presentations in an evening symposium designed to appeal to a broad audience of undergraduate, graduate, and professional students in addition to alumni, faculty, and staff.
Inspiring Yale serves as an opportunity for students to learn about the variety of research and exciting work happening at other schools, and more importantly, bring individuals across diverse disciplines together to bask in the glory of all the exciting work at Yale.
