My doctoral research examines the origins, legacies, and contemporary permutations of concessionary forest governance in Gabon, Central Africa, beginning with the allocations of economic concessions to French colonial companies at the turn of the 20th century, to the recent arrival of Chinese logging companies in an environment newly transformed by concerns for forest conservation and rural development.
