Message from the Dean

YSE has a legacy of impact for a sustainable environment; the more than 5,100 alumni from our School have been leaders in forestry, natural resources, the environment, and sustainable solutions for more than a century. We are confident that you will find unparalleled resources here to advance your studies and develop your career. When you join us at Yale you will become part of a remarkable, and truly outstanding community of faculty, staff, students, and alumni.

As a student at YSE, you will have the opportunity to learn from our more than 50 faculty members as well as innumerable visiting scholars and adjunct faculty that contribute to our School every year. You will have access to the approximately 160 courses offered annually, the 10 learning communities currently available, our many research centers and programs housed at YSE, more than 30 student interest groups that cover a wide range of topics, and the very extensive broader resources of Yale University. We encourage our students to explore and think outside of the constraints of conventional disciplines, and to build a diverse range of experiences during their time at Yale through school-supported research, internships, and travel.

Please don’t hesitate to contact the Office of Admissions & Financial Aid with any questions you may have about our programs, the resources we offer, or what it is like to be a student at YSE. The team has created a wonderful series of on-campus and virtual events for our admitted students. This includes interactive virtual and on-campus sessions, panels, and more. The hybrid Admitted Student Open House event will provide you with a comprehensive overview of the School, opportunities to connect with faculty and engage with current students and alumni—allowing you to learn about the various aspects that make YSE unique.

On behalf of the faculty, staff, and current students at YSE, I welcome you to the YSE community. I hope you will join us next year so we can work together to create knowledge and leadership for a sustainable future!
