The Class of 2024 celebrated their accomplishments at commencement ceremonies held at Old Campus and Kroon Courtyard on May 20. The 156 graduates are headed to positions at NGOs, corporations, governments, and academic institutions across the U.S. and the globe. 

Jane Jacoby grew up in New York City spending a ton of time climbing trees in Central Park and enjoying the nature within the cityscape. Now Jacoby ’24 MF/JD will be using her combined degree in law and forestry to protect natural resources with a goal of putting climate justice front and center in her efforts.

Forester and federal wildland firefighter Monte Kawahara is working to mitigate the effects of extreme wildfires by focusing on the root causes and partnering with tribal communities. Kawahara’s efforts earned him the Yale School of Environment's 2023 Prospect Street Award.

This year’s incoming class is one of the most diverse in Yale School of the Environment’s history, with students coming from six continents and 31 countries and from 29 U.S. states and territories.

YSE students spanned out across the globe for annual field studies during spring break.

Three Yale students focusing on environmental management and climate change mitigation have been named 2023 Wyss Scholars, a program that supports a new generation of leaders in their pursuit of graduate-level education in land conservation.

A YSE-led study details the severe degradation and deforestation caused by gold mining in tropical forests, as well as the biophysical challenges associated with effectively restoring these landscapes.

Whether leading climate protests, fighting for Indigenous land rights, or working the land at Yale-Myers, Kyle Lemle is keeping his focus on the importance of forests.

The Forest School at the Yale School of the Environment has helped establish the Northeast Forest Farmers Coalition, an education and outreach program designed to help the region’s forest landowners build forest farming operations.
