About

Professor Tomlin designs, develops, and applies geographic information systems (GIS).  As the originator of Map Algebra, author of GIS and Cartographic Modeling (ESRI Press 2012), and a member of the GIS Hall of Fame, his work is oriented toward image-processing tools and techniques in environmental planning.  Tomlin’s primary appointment is as Professor of Landscape Architecture and Regional Planning at the University of Pennsylvania’s Weitzman School of Design.
