Online Teaching and Learning

On this page you will find information about online learning programs that are available at YSE, as well as information about teaching online using resources available to faculty and students.

Transitioning to Teaching Remotely

With recent global events, courses will be delivered in an online format. Below is information to assist faculty during this transitional period.

Things to Consider

  • Faculty need to consider how the structure and content of their course(s) can be adapted to online delivery.  The Moving from Campus to Online document (PDF) is a great tool to help you think about the way you like to teach, and how to replicate that experience online. Some key questions to consider include:
    • How will you evaluate class participation online?
    • How can you adapt your strategies for exams?  Can Canvas tools or take home exams be used?
    • How will you enable group work in the online setting (see breakout room details below)?
    • How will you hold office hours?
    • What norms would you like to establish for student behavior and attendance?
    • Can you record your Zoom sessions to enable students with connectivity trouble to view later?
  • Consider making an extra effort to post slides or other resources for course sessions in advance so that students with limited internet bandwidth can download them and follow along via audio only should they run into connectivity trouble.

You can find more information about using educational technology effectively on the Teaching in the Fall 2020 detail page.
