Heather West Wins the 2015 Kroon Cup

Note: Yale School of the Environment (YSE) was formerly known as the Yale School of Forestry & Environmental Studies (F&ES). News articles and events posted prior to July 1, 2020 refer to the School's name at that time.

The F&ES community last week awarded the 2015 Kroon Cup to Heather West ’15 M.F./M.B.A., a third-year student pursuing a joint degree at F&ES and the Yale School of Management, whose tireless participation in student groups and passion for the American West inspired her classmates.

At Yale, West has served as Yale chapter President of the Society of American Foresters, helped organize a 2013-2014 speaker series on “sustainable beef,” and achieved success in conservation-related business competitions. A native of Davis, Calif., she enjoys exploring the Sierra, her home mountain range, and various other mountain landscapes across the U.S. West.

“Her cheerful disposition, endless motivation, and fun-loving spirit cultivate the type of FES community we all know and love,” one voter wrote.

“It was an honor to even be nominated by the students, staff, and faculty of F&ES,” West said. “The support the community has shown me over the past nine months has been incredible. I am so grateful that I have had the privilege to study and work alongside such an engaged, committed, and inspiring group of people.”

Awarded each spring, the Kroon Cup recognizes individuals who embody stewardship and implement projects that engage and inspire the larger F&ES community. The winner is selected by a vote by the school’s students, staff, and faculty.

West received the award during the School’s year-end celebration at Anthony’s Ocean View in New Haven.
