Course Description

This is a professional seminar on land conservation strategies and techniques, with particular emphasis on the legal, financial, and management tools used in the United States. The seminar is built around presentations by guest speakers from land conservation organizations and in-class discussion to further explore the content. Speakers present on topics critical to land conservation practitioners: acquisition, funding, stewardship, and key strategic issues facing land conservation today. Tools discussed include: basics of real estate law, types of conservation finance, and approaches to organizational management. Students undertake a clinical project with a local land conservation organization. Enrollment limited to twenty-five; preference to second-year students if limit reached.
