Sustainable AI

Course Description

AI is increasingly embedded in all aspects of society.  There are both utopian and dystopian scenarios, and everything in between. This course will consider different scenarios of business and the environment with a global perspective. The course will cover the pros and cons of AI, from sustainability, societal and business perspectives, and will cover some of the leading actors in this space.  It will include practical, real world examples from companies, governments and NGOs, with a focus on how AI is being used, for the greater good and also at times with unintended consequences.  There will be three main blocks: AI & the Environment, Risks and Governance, and Business and Society. The course will include external guest speakers who are experts in the field of business, Sustainable AI, and other relevant subject matter experts.  There will be a mandatory field trip as well as group exercises.  The course assumes students have a basic understanding of AI.
