Seminar on Public Lands and Policy in the American West

Nearly 30 percent of land in the United States is owned and managed by the federal government, almost all of which is in the western U.S. (i.e. 85% of Nevada is federally owned, compared to  0.03% of Iowa and Connecticut). Thus, the problems, policies, and management issues facing western lands are remarkably different than other in regions, especially in light of the west's unique ecological, social, and political landscapes. This seminar takes up these issues—focusing on the nuts and bolts of public land policy and management—using a variety of historical and contemporary case studies
