    Who Should Apply

    • Public, private, and nonprofit professionals, and advanced students from both the Global South and industrialized nations who share an interest in creating a more sustainable chemical enterprise. This program does not require an extensive background in chemistry.
    • Current and next-generation practitioners from around the globe eager to learn from the world’s foremost experts in Green Chemistry and Green Engineering, as well as related fields and alongside a worldwide network of online learners. 
    • Leaders who want to champion de-fossilization and the minimization of undesired biological and environmental impacts of the chemical enterprise as it transitions in response to climate and sustainability challenges.

    Tuition and Payments

    The tuition for the entire program is $7,500, and includes:.

    • Four 8-week online courses including asynchronous (video/text) and synchronous learning on a weekly basis.
    • Unlimited access to all online materials used in the courses
    • Mentorship by world-class faculty and practitioners in Green Chemistry and Green Engineering throughout the program
    • Weekly synchronous face-to-face interaction with experts in the field of Green Chemistry and Green Engineering and relevant disciplines
    • Expert advice on coursework
    • Faculty-guided capstone project and a hybrid conference at Yale University (travel costs are not covered)
    • There is no application fee
    • Some employers offer educational benefits, tuition assistance, and/or professional development funding. Here is a sample email to your employer to help get this discussion started. 
    • Scholarship funding is also available on a competitive basis to partially offset the cost of attendance.

    Payments Schedule and Refund Policy

    Upon admission to the program, reserving your place requires the submission of your Intent to Enroll form, as well as a non-refundable deposit of $300 USD. 

    June 13, 2025, 11:59 p.m. EDT 
    Due date for enrollment and non-refundable deposit of $300 USD. This deposit will be deducted from the first semester’s tuition payment. 

    August 11, 2025, 11:59 p.m. EDT 
    Due date for first installment of tuition payment due two weeks prior to first semester -  ($3,450)

    August 29, 2025, 11:59 p.m. EDT  
    Last day to withdraw from the program and receive a full refund minus the deposit 

    December 15, 2025, 11:59 p.m. EST 
    Due date for second installment of tuition payment due four weeks prior to second semester ($3,750) 

    Scholarships

    Financial support through scholarship funds, covering a portion of the tuition fees, are available and competitively awarded. Applying for scholarships occurs during the program application process. Admission decisions are made independently of funding requests. 

    Awards Include: 

    Leadership and Impact Award: Offered to select professionals in the chemical enterprise from the Global South. Successful applicants will demonstrate how participation in this program will lead to the development of high impact practices to reduce the carbon footprint of the chemical industry. Applicants should indicate how they plan to apply program knowledge to a specific initiative within the industry.

    Career Development Award: Offered to select early-career professionals and advanced students who demonstrate potential to be leaders in green chemistry and sustainability. Current or recent graduate students and individuals changing career paths are also eligible to apply. Successful applicants will include their long-term career goals in green chemistry and sustainability in the chemical industry and describe how this program will serve as a launch point to become a Green Chemistry, Green Engineering, or environmental leader.

    Educator Award: Offered to select educators whose primary job is teaching future employees in the chemical sector, with an emphasis on those teaching secondary or post-secondary students. Successful applicants will include plans to incorporate green chemistry and sustainability into their curricula. Additionally, please describe how participation in a program such as this will impact future program development.  

    General Scholarship: Offered to select outstanding applicants who bring additional skills to the program through leadership, life experiences or outstanding scholarship. Successful applicants will describe what unique experiences they bring to the program and how participation in the program will advance their career development and enable them to impact others upon completion.

    You will be notified of any scholarship award at the time of your admissions decision. Any scholarships awarded will be applied equally to both semester’s tuition. Please note that because this is a non-degree bearing program, traditional financial aid is not available. However, we encourage you to apply for financial support through a scholarship and inquire with your employer whether training and professional development funds may be applied to finance your participation in this program.

    All required information for your application is listed on this page. Only complete applications submitted prior to the application deadline are guaranteed to be considered by the Admissions Review Committee. Candidates not accepted in the initial application review will be placed on a waitlist and will be notified if a position becomes available prior to the start of the program in August. 

    Please review the dates posted on the website to ensure that you will be able to attend all classes to allow successful completion of the program.

    Application Materials

    Required Materials

    Note: English translations are required for all documents not published in English. Translations do not need to be notarized. 

    1. Completed online application form
    2. Scanned or electronic transcript (official or unofficial) that demonstrates the completion of a bachelor's degree in any subject from (a) an accredited U.S. college or university or (b) an international equivalent. 

      Uploaded transcripts must be scanned at a high enough quality that they are fully legible and must officially list: 

      • Your name; 
      • The name of your college/university; 
      • Your GPA or grade information; 
      • Your degree; and 
      • The date your degree was awarded. 
      • If the transcript does not include the date of graduation and the type of degree awarded, a scanned copy of your diploma should be included in the PDF.
      • We will consider waiving the transcript requirement on a case-by-case basis for individuals with significant professional experience (at least 10 years) or for whom it would be a significant burden to obtain a transcript from their institution.
      • Documents should be submitted in a single PDF with the following naming convention: “LastName_FirstName_Transcript”.  
    3. Resume or CV 
      • Recommended length of two (2) pages and maximum three (3) pages 
      • Please include dates of service, employers, titles, nature of duties, and any significant volunteer experience. 
      • Please note for each job/internship/volunteer position whether it was full or part time, and list original research work, reports, or publications. 
      • Documents should be submitted in a single PDF with the following naming convention: “LastName_FirstName_Resume”. 
    4. Letter of recommendation from a professional or academic supervisor 
      • A recommendation from an academic or professional supervisor is preferred. We are looking for a reference from an individual who can evaluate your scholarship, professional activities, leadership skills and career goals. 
      • Listing yourself, family or friends as a professional recommender is not acceptable.
      • It is your responsibility to contact your recommender and inform them that they will receive an email notification with a link and directions for submitting a letter of recommendation prior to the application deadline. 
      • Please instruct them to use the following naming convention for the file attachment “ApplicantLastName_ApplicantFirstName_LOR”.  
    5. Personal statement - 300 words max:  
      • Please include a personal statement discussing your interests, life experiences, and goals as well as your motivations for applying to this program. 
      • Please use the following naming convention for your personal statement file attachment “ApplicantLastName_ApplicantFirstName_PersonalStatement”.
    6. Short answers - 300 words max for each - to both of the following essay questions: 
      • Drawing on your professional and/or academic experience, please describe one challenge the chemical enterprise faces in the efforts to address climate change and implement green and sustainable chemistry and what role you see yourself playing in this implementation as your career progresses. 
      • How do you intend to manage your time effectively given your current commitments to work and your personal life? While valuable for your career, this certificate can be demanding and we want to ensure that you have a plan to manage your time effectively. 
      • Please use the following naming convention for your essay file attachment “ApplicantLastName_ApplicantFirstName_Essay”.
    7. A PDF copy of your TOEFL or IELTS test score report. Participants must have a high proficiency in English in order to learn from the written and recorded presentations, complete written assignments and engage in thoughtful discussion with peers and instructors during live sessions.
      • Test scores are required if your native language is not English and if your undergraduate or graduate degree was not granted at an institution where English is the official language of instruction. If you have been working in an institution where English is the spoken language, please contact us to request a waiver for test scores.
      • The score report may be uploaded directly into the online application system.  
      • Documents should be submitted in a single PDF with the following naming convention: “LastName_FirstName_ScoreReport”. 
    8. If applying for a scholarship, a short statement - 500 words max – based on the topic presented in your chosen scholarship category. 
      • Your essay should explain why you are seeking a scholarship and will include details on how this program will help you reach your goals and create on-the-ground impact toward implementing green and sustainable chemistry. Include any personal circumstances, hardships, or barriers to attendance that you wish the reviewers to know about. Please be specific. No additional material is required. Please do NOT send us any financial information as part of your application; it will not be reviewed. 
      • Please use the following naming convention for your scholarship file attachment “ApplicantLastName_ApplicantFirstName_Scholarship”.
    9. There is no application fee 

    Optional Materials

    Applicants may choose to submit as optional materials:

    • Additional scanned or electronic transcripts (official or unofficial) from any other accredited U.S. college or university or an international equivalent you attended. 
      • Documents should be submitted in a single PDF with the following naming convention: “LastName_FirstName_OptionalTranscript”. 

    Technical Requirements

    Participation in this program will require consistent access to:

    • A computer, laptop, or tablet capable of playing audio and video
    • Internet connection (recommended speed at least 600 kbps)
    • A web camera and microphone to participate in online meetings
    • Microsoft Word, Microsoft PowerPoint, Microsoft Excel (or equivalent programs)

    Equipment and software are the responsibility of the participant and will not be provided by Yale University.
