    Important Notes

    • Need and most merit-based scholarships only cover the cost of tuition. Funding received over the cost of tuition could be subject to tax. Please visit International Students and U.S. Taxes for more details and speak with a tax accountant if you have further questions.
    • Please note that financial aid is available only up to the Single cost of attendance. The Married, Married with dependents, and Student and dependents costs of attendance are for informational purposes only.
    • Tuition and the mandatory Student Activity and IT Fees are determined annually by YSE and are subject to change from year to year.
    • Books, Course Materials, Supplies and Equipment are an estimate based on a recent survey of YSE students.
    • Transportation is an estimate based on a recent survey of YSE students and represents the average cost for one round trip between YSE, a student’s residence, and a student's place of work as well as transportation necessary to complete a student’s course of study (e.g., attending a conference).
    • Medical insurance is an estimate based on the cost of coverage through Yale Health, the University sponsored medical insurance.
    • Living expenses are an estimate based on Yale's Office of Strategic Analysis report, current YSE students and a benchmark as determined by the College Board. Expenses include housing, and food.
    • Miscellaneous personal expenses are an estimate based on Yale's Office of Strategic Analysis report, current YSE students and a benchmark as determined by the College Board. Expenses include clothing, and personal maintenance.
    • Average costs are used for all COA components excluding Tuition, Student Activity Fee, and Student IT fee.
    • COA is adjusted appropriately for students who are:
      - Enrolled less than full time; or
      - Attending or receiving financial aid for less than a full academic year.
    • You may wish to use the cost of attendance as a means to budget your own finances and determine your need for loans or other supplemental funding. Please note that the COA budget is for 9 months while you are enrolled in classes.
    • Have a special or unusual circumstance (i.e., childcare expenses, additional transportation expenses, medical insurance costs above the Cost of Attendance). Please contact financialaid.yse@yale.edu to see if you are eligible for a Cost of Attendance adjustment.

Expenses not included: Moving expenses, prior debt and credit card debt will not be considered part of student budgets in determining eligibility for financial aid.
