Industrial Ecology and Green Chemistry Specialization

Students gain an understanding of systems analysis applied to environmental problems in production-consumption systems, acquire methods to quantify the use of energy, materials, water, and land for industrial production, and the comparative evaluation of different pollution types. They learn about how organizations use these approaches in environmental management.

The Specialization will prepare students for employment in corporate sustainability and environment, health and safety positions, in environmental consultancies and think-tanks, nongovernmental organizations, and governmental and multi-lateral agencies.

    Program Courses

    Core

    Two required courses.

The standard second core course for the Industrial Ecology and Green Chemistry specialization – ENV 884, Industrial Ecology – will not be offered during the 2023 – 2024 academic year. In its place, students should take ENV 584, Applications of Industrial Ecology, for 1.5 credits and also complete a 1.5-credit independent study course with Dr. Marian Chertow (Project Course ENV 1130). The other core course, ENV 771, will be offered as planned during Spring ’24 and Spring ’25.
