Summer Internship, 2006

2006 Student Internship - The ubiquitous construction in the capital city is representative of the country’s rapid economic progress marked by a 9% annual increase in GDP. Air pollution is also a trademark of Beijing, which ranks second only to Mexico City as the world’s most polluted. During mid-day, one can look directly at the sun and not even squint; on the worst days, skyward reaching buildings are difficult to distinguish a kilometer away. China faces some very immediate and difficult decisions in balancing the growth of its economy against its environmental costs.
