In the absence of a Geography Department, FES is the hub of geographic technology and research at Yale, housing most of the professors and students who 'play with' it.  The Geo SIG brings together student and resources at FES and across the university to focus on all things geographical or geospatial. This includes geographic information systems (GIS), remote sensing, cartography, spatial analysis and statistics, as well as the emerging field of web mapping – the creation, presentation and use of cartographic material over the internet. The group helps facilitate geoscience-related learning, discussions, and activities.  Geo SIG came out of a collaboration with the Google Earth Outreach team following the 2013 Google @ Yale workshop.
