Kayaks in search of god parents or active nephew

Two 2005 Necky Eskia 17ft Polymer Touring Kayaks in need of good “temporary” home and more play time

I’m an incoming FES PhD student, and although I haven’t secured housing yet, I’m anticipating a problem storing my kayaks. I’d like to bring two 17ft Necky boats with rudders. If anyone knows of a good home or would be willing to offer me storage I’d like to work out an arrangement before I arrive.

Ideally, I’d find a fellow kayak enthusiast (or prospect) who’s located near water or has the ability to transport the boats and would appreciate access (and equipment if needed) in exchange for storage. You would need a trailer or car rack outfitted with some sort of hull support. Unlike white water boats, these are too big to ride directly on a car rack without being damaged under their own weight. You can, however, get by with foam blocks (I have vehicle straps).

I have pullies and nylon hanging straps and currently hoist them up in my garage with a number of other boats (we have a high ceiling). They can also be stored outside on the ground, but need to be protected from UV with a tarp and kept out of sight. I have a cable lock for them, but unfortunately the tie downs can be quickly unbolted, so it’s merely a deterrent and not a solely adequate security policy if left out in public view for extended periods. I haven’t researched CT registration requirements yet, so any knowledge there would be much appreciated. I will maintain insurance and registration (if required). This is also a call out for local water knowledge and potential adventure guides.

I can be reached by email: gabriel.grant (at) yale

Thanks,

Gabriel
