From the Dean

Yale’s environment school is needed as never before. As environmental issues have become more complex and more international, the new generation of environmental leaders will increasingly need professional training in environmental science, management, and policy.

The majority of our graduate students at Yale are enrolled in our master’s program in environmental management — the new business of bringing human enterprise into harmony with the natural world of which we are a part. And it’s the most important endeavor in the world.

I know this may sound exaggerated, but I think the truth of this statement will become clear in the years ahead. The enormous expansion of the human enterprise has brought us to the threshold of a fundamentally new era in which environmental management must quickly emerge as the top priority of governments and peoples everywhere.

Today a great school of the environment must be a truly international institution, with a profound commitment to achieving sustainable development at home and abroad. Yale’s School of Forestry & Environmental Studies is committed to being that school.
