Lecturer and Senior Research Scholar

Teaching Statement

Dr. Brennan-Galvin teaches two courses every year: “Cities and Sustainability in the Developing World” (fall), and “Transportation and Urban Land-Use Planning: Shaping the 21st Century City” (spring). Although the classes are large, they are taught in a seminar format, with the assistance of teaching assistants. Typically, there are a sizeable number of students from the School of Architecture in every course, which creates an interesting dynamic. In line with her experience of nearly thirty years of working in “the field” in developing countries, Brennan-Galvin is committed to field trips as a way for students to advance their knowledge of sustainable development. In the past 3 years, field trips have been conducted to Beijing, Curitiba/São Paulo, Bogotá, and Delhi. Field trips during 2006-2007 will be to Mexico City and Shanghai. Typically, around 20 students are accepted for each trip.
