La minga, or "community service", is a cornerstone in rural areas of Ecuador in which communities work together to construct sanitation systems, build houses, improve community green spaces, etc. In Barrio San Fernando - adjacent to a rapidly expanding urban area southeast of Quito - the community builds trails and cleans a small stream as part of an ecotourism project in an abandoned nearby valley.
