Conference Report on Biofuels: The Impact of Oil Palm on Forests and Climate

The Environmental Leadership and Training Initiative (ELTI), a joint program of the Yale School of Forestry and Environmental Studies and the Smithsonian Tropical Research Institute, and the National University of Singapore (NUS) Department of Biological Sciences held a conference in Singapore–on May 12-13, 2009–exploring the environmental costs and benefits of using oil palm as a biofuel feedstock.

The conference was designed to serve as a thought-provoking forum that contributes towards discussions on how to improve practices in the production of oil palm in the region and significantly reduce threats and impacts to forest ecosystems and the communities that depend on them, as well minimize GHG emissions.
