Urban Resources Initiative in the News

The Urban Resources Initiative (URI) has been attracting media attention lately for its very noticable impact on the New Haven cityscape. A not-for-profit–and a program of the School of Forestry & Environmental Studies–URI works with community groups, residents and students in the areas of community forestry, environmental education and training.

Community tree planting plays a prominent role in URI's schedule during the spring, summer and fall months. One of the local National Public Radio stations recently produced a story on local high school students who participated in the program this year. Listen to, or read, “Teens Use Green Thumbs to Improve New Haven” on the WNPR website. Another story about the tree planting program is available on the New Haven Independent, in “A Tree Grows in the Hill.”

Also, Colleen Murphy Dunning, Director of URI, was interviewed on Where We Live as part of the segment “Connecticut Forests: Ecosystems and Economy” (Colleen comes in at the 43:00 minute mark).

Below: URI interns and volunteers planting trees, repairing park benches, and making a brick path in a community park.
