Post-doc position available in Bioeconomics at the Yale School of Forestry & Environmental Studies
 
This post-doc is expected to contribute to research on coupled ecological-economic systems.  50% of this position is supported by an NIH grant on infectious disease and human economic behavior. The person in this position will be expected to spend  at least half of his/her time working on theoretical and empirical modeling relating to human decisions/behavior and infectious disease systems such as traditional and swine flu, specifically relating to public policy.  Non-human pathogens (e.g., livestock disease and insect vector pathogens) are also part of the study. 
 
The individual will have opportunities to work on other projects related to coupled economic-ecological/biological systems such as invasive species, conservation, economic-ecological-hydrological feedbacks, and general applications of economics in natural resource management. 
 
This person is expected to collaborate with the faculty and to develop original research.
 
There will be substantial opportunities to work with collaborates in the Yale School of Epidemiology and Public Health and at Arizona State University. 
 
Qualifications:
·         PhD in Natural Resource & Environmental Economics, Applied Mathematics, or a closely related area.
Desired Skills:
·         Experience with dynamical systems modeling, dynamic programming and/or optimal control
·         Experience with econometrics or empirical infectious disease epidemiology, with specific understanding and care relating to observational data sets
·         Strong programming capabilities (e.g., Mathematica, MatLab, R, Stata, ADMB) including a knowledge of (or willingness to learn) basic parallel computing
·         Knowledge and interest in both ecological (epidemiological) and economic systems
