Heidi Binko joined the Rockefeller Family Fund (RFF) as associate director of Special Climate Initiatives in October 2008. In this role she works closely with key foundations, organizations and thought leaders working at the nexus of climate and coal. Since joining RFF, Heidi has played a leading role in creating strategic partnerships between advocates and the foundation community interested in helping the nation move toward a clean energy economy. In the past five years Heidi has supported campaigns working on port, rail, and mining projects in the Pacific Northwest, the Powder River Basin, the Southeast United States and Australia.
Heidi brings more than a decade of experience in the environmental philanthropic sector to her work. Prior to joining RFF, she was the executive director of the WestWind Foundation, a family foundation based in Virginia. She currently serves as co-chair of the board of directors of the Environmental Grantmakers Association (EGA), a membership organization that represents more than 215 domestic and international environmental foundations. Heidi also serves as the co-chair of the Climate and Energy Funders Group, a project of the Consultative Group on Biological Diversity. Prior to her work in the field of environmental philanthropy, Heidi held positions with The Nature Conservancy and the Land Trust Alliance. She holds degrees from the University of Notre Dame and the Yale School of Forestry and Environmental Studies.
