Former students and friends of Chris and Herb Bormann, Oastler Professor Emeritus of Forest Ecology, gathered together in Bowers Auditorium on Saturday, April 21st
in celebration of Herb’s teaching and impact over the years. Sharing ‘Herb and Chris’ stories, anecdotes, and lessons learned, nine former PhD graduates gave tribute to Herb’s influence in their lives and careers. Dean Peter Crane presented the Aldo Leopold Award. Awarded only one time previously in the history of Yale, the Aldo Leopold Award ‘recognizes an individual whose exceptional contributions in the protection of the environment, in the stewardship of ‘the land’ as Leopold envisioned it, or in scholarship or writing in environmental ethics, ecology or a related field serve as a model to others as well as inspiration for future generations’.
