Special Trees in the Forest

STIF is a social and advocacy group for LGBTQ and Allied students at FES. As our community continues to pursue diversity issues on multiple levels, STIF is working to continue increasing the openness and inclusivity of our school towards LGBTQ people.

STIF provides a safe and welcoming space within FES for LGBTQ students to feel visible and supported by our peers and pursue social and institutional advocacy at Yale and beyond. We provide a means to network with allied groups in the graduate and professional school community, extending the social and political reach of LGBTQ environmentalism.

Our mission is enhanced by an imperative of pursuing deeper goals of diversity by framing LGBTQ activism from a range of perspectives. We bring scholars to the school whose work deals with our gendered relationship to the natural world and contributions of the LGBTQ movement towards diverse paradigms of environmentalism. In the Fall of 2007 our sponsored guest speaker is Dr. Cate Mortimer-Sandilands of York University in Toronto.
