Funding
Doctoral students receive a School Fellowship which provides a stipend and tuition waiver for the first five years of their studies. In 2009-2010, the stipend is $25,500.
Teaching and research are integral to graduate training. During periods of stipend support, doctoral students assist with teaching and/or research activities of the School for ten hours per week.

The National Science Foundation Graduate Fellowships, are available to applicants for admission and first and second-year graduate students. Deadline: late November.
The EPA Science to Achieve Results (STAR) Graduate Fellowships, encourage promising students to obtain advanced degrees in environmental fields. Deadline: mid November.
The Jacob Javits Fellowship Program grants are based on academic excellence, promise, and demonstrated financial need. Deadline: early November.
The Ford Foundation International Fellowships Program provides support for up to three years of formal graduate-level study. Fellows are selected from countries in Asia, Africa, the Middle East, Latin America and Russia, where the Ford Foundation maintains active overseas programs. U.S. nationals are ineligible. Fellows may choose to study in any academic discipline related to three grant-making areas: Asset Building and Community Development; Education, Media, Arts and Culture; Peace and Social Justice. Deadline: varies by applicant's country.
