American Orchid Society Research Grants

Description: The American Orchid Society awards grants for non-commercial conservation projects, as well as for experimental projects of fundamental and applied research, on orchids. Conservation projects supported have been in areas as diverse as CITES publication funding, a conservation program for an orchid reserve, establishment of a secretariat for the IUCN/OSG, and other informational resources. Research support has been given in a wide range of areas of biological research, such as taxonomy, genetics, anatomy, physiology, development, tissue culture and ecology.
Eligibility: Qualified personnel associated with accredited institutions or appropriate institutes or organizations may apply for grants. Support is not restricted to individuals or institutions within the United States.
Deadlines: January 1 for Spring (annually); July 1 for Fall (annually).

The Arnold Arboretum at Harvard University - Deland Award for Student Research

Description: Due to a generous endowment established at the Arnold Arboretum of Harvard University by F. Stanton Deland, Jr., Harvard class of 1936, funds are available to support research by graduate and advanced undergraduate students working on the comparative biology of woody plants. Research may include developmental biology, physiology, genetics, reproductive biology, or ecology.
Eligibility: While students not enrolled at Harvard may apply for research support, preference shall be given to students enrolled at Harvard and to students whose research makes use of the living collections of the Arnold Arboretum. Awards will ordinarily be limited to $5,000 or less.
Deadline: Individuals may apply for an award at any time, and the decision on the award will be made within two months of receipt of an application.

Garden Club of America Fellowships

Description: There are a number of fellowships offered:
CATHERINE H. BEATTIE FELLOWSHIP - To promote conservation of rare and endangered flora in the US;
GCA AWARD IN COASTAL WETLANDS STUDIES - To promote wetlands conservation through the support of young scientists in their field work and research;
GCA FELLOWSHIP IN ECOLOGICAL RESTORATION - To support advanced study and research in ecological restoration;
ZONE VI FELLOWSHIP IN URBAN FORESTRY - Provides financial aid to advanced undergraduate or graduate students to study urban forestry and related subjects.
Eligibility: Varies.
Deadline: Varies, but all are between January-February (annually).
