JPA at The Sustainable Development (SD) Sector Management Unit for Central America
The Sustainable Development (SD) Sector Management Unit for Latin America and the Caribbean covering Agriculture and Rural Development, Environment, Infrastructure and Social Development, is seeking a qualified candidate for the position of Junior Professional Associate to support the work of the Central America Team. The Central America Country Management Unit covers Guatemala, Honduras, El Salvador, Nicaragua, Costa Rica, and Panama; the Sustainable Development Sector Management Unit covers a broad array of projects in Central America, ranging from land administration to rural competitiveness to rural infrastructure, financed by the World Bank (IBRD and IDA), the Global Environment Facility, and the Prototype Carbon Fund.

The position, under the framework of the World Bank's Junior Professional Associate (JPA) program, is for a maximum of two years. The JPA will report directly to the Sector Leader for Sustainable Development for Central America.

The State of Connecticut Department of Environmental Protection is offering several summer internships under Air, Waste and Water Programs and Environmental Conservation. Join Deputy Commissioner Amey Marrella and F&ES alumna Diane Duva for an informal discussion of current initiatives, including RGGI (Regional Greenhouse Gas Initiative), the carbon cap-and-trade program being developed with other Northeastern States, their award winning nitrogen trading program for sewage treatment plants to address hypoxia in Long Island Sound, and a new recycling program for electronic waste.

Devine Tarbell & Associates, Inc. (DTA) is a consulting firm based in
Portland, Maine with offices across the country. With over 200
professionals on staff, DTA has expanded their base of environmental,
regulatory and engineering experience developed serving the
hydroelectric industry to include ocean energy technology. The firm is
combining in-depth expertise and real-world experience to support the
development of tidal and wave energy projects on both the Atlantic and
Pacific coasts.

• TNC US Diversity Scholarship: a limited number (3‐5) of competitive, paid internships for US citizens are being offered as a means to increase diversity in TNC’s United States programs.

• TNC Global Diversity Scholarship: a limited number (3‐5) of competitive, paid internships will be available for students from outside the US to work in TNC country programs .

• University or grant‐funded Internships: Student must demonstrate on the application form that they have acquired either institutional or other grant support for their internship (these amounts (stipend + expenses) will vary depending on the country where the internship takes place – please contact Renée Mullen (rmullen@tnc.org) directly if you have questions about this).

Please join us in Sage Lounge from 5-6p on Wednesday, November 14th for an informal conversation with Ken Strassner (Yale College \\\'68, Yale Law School \\\'74) about emerging opportunities for environmental professionals.

Prior to joining Kimberly-Clark in 1976, Mr. Strassner served as an officer in the U. S. Navy, practiced with a Washington, D.C. law firm and served as Executive Assistant to the Assistant Secretary of Labor for Occupational Safety and Health. Strassner’s legal specialties include U.S. and international environmental and energy law, product safety matters and occupational safety and health requirements. In 1988, he was appointed Vice President of Environment and Energy at Kimberly-Clark Corporation, and in November 2004, his areas of responsibility were expanded and he now serves as Vice President- Global Environment, Safety, Regulatory and Scientific Affairs. Mr. Strassner is the current Chairman of the Corporate Environmental, Health and Safety Management Roundtable.

National Park Service Information Session:
Summer Consultant Internships with the Business Plan Initiative

A joint effort between the National Park Service and the non-profit Student Conservation Association, the Business Plan Initiative promotes the long-term health of our national parks through the development of improved financial planning and management tools.

Over the course of the 11 week internship, the teams of consultants will work closely with park management to develop a business plan for the park.

Up to 25 summer consultants will be selected from top graduate programs in business, public policy, environmental management, and related fields. Placed in teams of two or three in national park units across the country, interns will have the opportunity to work in unique environments on projects that combine issues of policy, financial analysis/planning and natural/cultural resource management.

IEc is recruiting new Research Analysts and Associates to work on projects ranging from modeling the effects of sea level rise to natural resource damage assessment (and many projects in between). RAs come to us with BA degrees in disciplines such as economics, environmental science and public policy and generally spend two to three years at IEc before going off to graduate school. Associates have a Masters in similar fields of study, and are eligible for promotion to Senior Associate and Principal (partner) status in the firm. All candidates should have outstanding academic records and excel in writing as well as quantitative analysis.
