Networking

The secret, master networker Keith Ferrazzi claims, is in reaching out to other people. As Ferrazzi discovered early in life, what distinguishes highly successful people from everyone else is the way they use the power of relationships—so that everyone wins. In Never Eat Alone, Ferrazzi lays out the specific steps—and inner mindset—he uses to reach out to connect with the thousands of colleagues, friends, and associates on his Rolodex, people he has helped and who have helped him. -- from book jacket

Most vacancies are filled before the job description is posted. How do people know about these unannounced openings? In a word, networking! But don’t worry: Networking isn’t as mysterious as it seems. In fact, most of us engage in personal or social networking every day. -- wetfeet.com

Interview Preparation

Asking the right questions can help job seekers ace the interview and land that job. The most critical question job interviewers ask is often the last one. That's when they lean forward and say, "Do you have any questions?" As author John Kador points out, that's the applicants' moment to shine, to demonstrate that they have done their homework and that they're good fit with the organization. -- from Amazon.com

"How to Interview Like a Top MBA arms job seekers with: Insights and advice from top corporate executives, headhunters, and MBA program administrators. Worksheets, charts, diagrams, and other valuable tools for creating a customized interview strategy and plan of action. Valuable lessons on how to read interviewer signals, take control of an interview, turn weaknesses into strengths, ask the right questions, and much more." -- googlebooks

Professional Job Application Materials

"The quickest way to a hiring manager’s heart is an attention-getting resume. In THE WORLD’S GREATEST RESUMES, career consultant Robert Wm. Meier explains how to turn your resume into the perfect job-seeking device by evaluating it against the world’s first Resume Rater and its attendant Resume Quality Index, a quality standard for resumes similar to the academic GPA." -- Ten Speed Press

Salary Negotiations

You needn't enter salary negotiations with butterflies in your stomach--and you needn't be at the employer's mercy when negotiating a job offer. Whether this is your first salary negotiation or your tenth, you will fare much better if you have some basic negotiation skills. In fact, almost every initial offer can be improved on--in many cases, dramatically--with a little savvy negotiating. This WetFeet Insider Guide will help you maximize your salary, title, responsibilities, perks, work flexibility, and more by teaching you how to negotiate the terms of your next job from the moment you start looking for it. -- Amazon.com

Leadership

From (the wildly popular) Wharton School Professor Stewart Friedman. "In a world of work-life trade-offs, Stew Friedman offers what most think impossible: a field-tested program that gives you not only what you want in business, but also what you want in life. Brilliant." --Timothy Ferriss, New York Times bestselling author, The 4-Hour Workweek

From Barbara Kellerman, professor at Harvard's Kennedy School of Government. "At long last, followership brilliantly comes into its own--as leadership. Kellerman is noted for her original and arresting studies in leadership; in Followership, a book rich with historical examples and real-life situations, she offers bold new ideas about the leader-follower interaction." -- --James MacGregor Burns, Woodrow Wilson Professor of Government emeritus, Williams College

Presentation Skills

It's often reported that the number one fear among American adults is public speaking. But in today's competitive business world, effective communication is a crucial skill, and the cost of being less than effective is quite high. From the White House to boardrooms worldwide, Tim Koegel has strengthened presentations, media relations and communications skills of CEOs and world leaders alike with his renowned coaching abilities. His new book, The Exceptional Presenter, lays out his techniques in a format perfectly suited to today's busy world. -- Amazon.com
