Fall 2017: Time and location TBA

The Urban Ecology and Forestry Practices field trip course (Credit/Fail) will provide a forum for viewing and discussing urban forestry management and community engagement with both practitioners and urban ecology researchers in the Northeast October 18 – 21, 2017. The field trip will be valuable to a range of MEM, MESc/MFS and MF students who have interests in community engagement, urban forestry operations, green infrastructure, ecosystem services and more.  Students will have an opportunity to meet managers from municipal and NGO led urban forestry operations, as well as scientists from USFS Urban Field Stations active in social-ecological research.  Site visits will include tours in New York, Philadelphia and Baltimore to observe planting large caliper trees in dense urban areas, as well as natural regeneration in protected areas within cities.  Students will also meet USFS researchers and collaborators at three Urban Field Stations including site visits to explore monitoring of natural infrastructure projects to social network stewardship mapping.

Because the field trip will be limited to 10 students, interested students must apply by emailing their resume and statement of interest to colleen.murphy-dunning@yale.eduby 9/15.  Please note “Application to Urban Ecology Research & Urban Forestry Practices field trip” in the ‘Subject’ line of email.  Accepted students will be notified by 9/18, and must confirm acceptance by 9/21/17
