The schedule for the first few weeks is as follows, with particular attention to the bolded items:

  • Mon 1/12 – No class
  • Wed. 1/14 – Class meets at regular time
  • Thu. 1/15 – 6–9pm is a special class in Burke with a viewing of the film “Civil Action” with discussion to follow
  • Mon 1/19 – No class, MLK Jr Day
  • Wed 1/21 – Class meets at regular time

Starting the week of 1/26 the class will meet as regularly scheduled.

Introduction to the legal requirements and policy underpinnings of the basic U.S. environmental laws, including the Clean Water Act, Clean Air Act, and various statutes governing waste, food safety, and toxic substances. This course examines and evaluates current approaches to pollution control and resource management as well as the “next generation” of regulatory strategies, including information economic incentives and other market mechanisms, voluntary emissions reductions, and information disclosure requirements. Mechanisms for addressing environmental issues at the local, regional, and global levels are also considered
