Yale Myers Forest
Deadline to apply: 2nd Friday in February.
Location: Essex, CT
Description:
The Apprentice Forester Internship Program (6-10 POSITIONS): An intensive educational experience in forest management and stewardship. Over the last decade we have been increasing the number of the masters student interns who perform all phases of forest management work including continuous forest inventory, stand exams, mapping and photographic interpretation, timber sale layout, marking of silvicultural prescriptions, wildlife habitat assessments, contract compliance and supervision, road drainage and maintenance, boundary marking, and landowner outreach and extension.
Students need to contact the Forest Manager Richard Campbell and Director of School Forests Professor Mark Ashton for details.
The Masters Student Research Internship Program: The Yale Forests are used by 2-4 Masters students per year for summer research -- both official Dissertation and Master's projects as well as projects within the context of different courses such as economics and management. As the School has grown, the demand has increased for forested land to serve as a site for these projects. In addition, through the quiet corner initiative, students can actively participate in work involving the management of working private small-holder lands surrounding the forest. Such work includes ecosystem services, open space recreation, conservation planning, restoration, community partnerships and governance, and forest policy.
Internships are arranged through Forest Manager Richard Campbell, the Research Coordinator Marlyse Duguid and Director of School Forests Professor Mark Ashton. Students MUST be associated with a faculty advisor and mentor.
