Position Focus

Provide high-level coordination and support for the School of Forestry & Environmental Studies’ fundraising and alumni services efforts, assisting the Director, Associate Director, and Assistant Director (“Directors”). Manage the volunteers of the Alumni Association Board, as well as the class secretaries, in their activities. Design and implement an effective communications effort for the School’s various external constituencies, including alumni, donors, and prospects. This position reports to the Assistant Director, Major Gifts and Alumni Services.

Essential Duties

  1. Manages F&ES alumni volunteers and programs, including the Alumni Board of Directors and their activities, Yale Day of Service, Shared Interest Groups, and regional alumni groups.
  2. Leads the School’s introduction and ongoing administration of the AlumniFire networking platform.
  3. Manages Class of 1980 Program, including notification and outreach, review and ranking of applications, awarding gifts funds to projects, oversight of student progress and accounts, outreach to Class of 1980 representatives and stewardship.
  4. Coordinates outreach efforts on behalf of the office, in consultation with Directors.
  5. Provides research on individuals and/or corporations and foundation using office files, databases, and Internet search engines and resources.
  6. Creates summaries of the prospect pool with respect to giving, status, affiliation, and other focus points as needed.
  7. Interacts with alums and major gifts donors to provide cultivation and stewardship as appropriate.
  8. Assists in the coordination of events including reunion, Leadership Council, Alumni donor receptions, etc., in concert with Directors.
  9. Manages relationships and outreach to alumni Secretaries, solicits class notes and edits them for publications.
  10. Required Education and Experience Bachelor’s Degree with three to five years of administrative or professional writing experience or an equivalent combination of education/experience in fundraising, alumni services, communications and/or marketing.

Required Skills/Abilities

  1. Exceptional oral and written communication, editing, and analytical skills. Ability to work well in and foster a team environment. Professionalism, maturity, good judgment, and ability to work with confidential material.
  2. Knowledge of and proficiency in Microsoft Office and social media, and the ability to adapt to University wide databases and to learn software such as MailChimp, Emma, InDesign, AlumniFire, etc.
  3. Demonstrated organizational and research abilities with strong attention to detail. Ability to prioritize and handle diverse, simultaneous tasks. Ability to initiate and see tasks through with minimal supervision.
  4. Ability to interact with top level donors and Yale administrators, as well as students and alumni volunteers.

Preferred Education, Experience and Skills

  1. Master’s degree from F&ES.
  2. Interest in the environment.
  3. Experience in a university setting or with development and alumni work.
  4. Familiarity with Yale.
