The Yale Health Plan (YHP) is a comprehensive multispecialty group practice plan for the faculty, staff, and students of Yale University. All Yale students are eligible for membership in the Plan. Full-time degree candidate students will be enrolled automatically. Students on leave, part-time students (students who pay less than full tuition), and special students may enroll in the YHP Billed Associates Plan and pay a monthly premium. Students interested in enrolling a spouse or dependent(s) should check with Yale Health Plan Subscriber Services for eligibility requirements, benefit plan descriptions, and premium fees. YHP members receive outpatient care at the Health Center, 17 Hillhouse Avenue, which houses the offices of YHP physicians and other YHP health professionals, a twenty-four hour urgent visit area, a medical laboratory, a radiology suite, and a physical therapy service.

Hospitalization and major medical coverage are extra.

The YHP encourages students to select a personal physician from its primary care staff. In addition, specialty services are available to members of the Health Center. Appointments are scheduled weekdays from 8:30 am to 5:00 pm.

The Yale Health Plan coverage does not include the cost of medications, spectacles, contact lenses, orthodontics, or dental care. The Plan operates its own pharmacy for the sale of prescription medicines and certain over-the-counter medications.

New student memberships begin on the day of Mods Orientation (August 7, 2005). Membership coverage ends on August 31 of the year you graduate (if the graduation date is May). If graduation is December, the coverage is canceled after December 31.
